Pearl, Alexandrite and Moonstone – June birthstones

    By Razi | Summit Diamonds | 1 comment | 6 June, 2022 | 0

With the Pearl, Alexandrite and Moonstone as its birthstones, June is one of only three months that has three birthstones associated with it.

Pearls are the only gemstones made by living creatures (mollusks) with its name derived comes from the Old French “perle”, and the Latin “perna” meaning “leg,” referencing the leg-of-mutton shape of an open mollusc shell. The finest of pearls have a naturally reflective lustre, making them appear creamy white with a brilliant gloss that casts many colourful hues.

The Persian Gulf waters near Bahrain, Indian ocean, China, Philippines, Indonesia, and Australia are places where pearls are found.

Alexandrite discovered in Russian emerald mines located in the Ural Mountains, is a relatively modern gemstone often described as emerald by day and ruby at night and posses a rare variety of uncommon chemical composition that enables it change colour from bluish green in daylight to purplish red under bright light. The chameleon-like colour shift as well as it being scarce in nature makes alexandrite one of the rarest and most expensive gemstones on Earth.

Today, besides Russia; most alexandrite comes from Sri Lanka, Brazil, and East Africa.

Moonstone, June’s third gemstone was named by Pliny, a Roman natural historian who wrote that the gemstone’s shimmery appearance shifted with the phases of the moon. These gems come in a range of colours spanning yellow, grey, green, blue, peach, and pink, sometimes displaying a star or cat’s eye. Moonstones are found in Sri Lanka, India, Australia, Myanmar, Madagascar, and the United States.

Pearl represents love, purity, positive energy, innocence, loyalty, modesty and above all it represents wealth. The other stones; Alexandrite represents positive feelings, inspiration, creative energy, and love while Moonstone represents calmness, inner strength, peace, and healing power.

Using warm soapy water to clean these gemstones is best recommended.

June just like any other month is filled with lots of anniversaries and various celebrations. And what better way to celebrate than with these three beautiful options of the birthstones the month has to offer. If you are wondering just where you can get these beautiful stones from, Razi is just a call away.
